Time’s a wastin’

Some time ago I wrote a post called “No Mas” and listed agencies I was quitting my submissions to unless and until sales increased.  That list was:

CanstockPhoto
Crestock
FotoMind
FeaturePics
ImageCatalog
YayMicro
SnapVillage
MostPhotos

I decided to permanently drop Crestock, Fotomind (RIP), FeaturePics, ImageCatalog (RIP), YayMicro, Snapvillage/Veer and MostPhotos.  However, shortly after I did, Canstock was bought by Fotosearch and I have had a number of $18 sales since.  They have been returned to upload status.  MostPhotos is super easy to submit to, occasionally has sales and operates as a full resolution backup of your stock gallery with no reviews.  Thus, they stayed, too.

Well, that post was quite awhile ago and now I have new decisions to make.

Alamy has, in just a few months, passed Cutcaster, Veer, 3dStudio, YayMicro, DepositPhotos, StockFresh and MostPhotos in all-time earnings.  Clearly we need to spend time on images and sites that pay well.  One of my major changes for 2011 is going to be working on that.  I want more income from stock in 2011 so I need to focus on creating better images and limiting my time wasters.

It may be close to time to eliminate Cutcaster, Veer, 3dS and others from my weekly uploads until something changes again.

Have you made updates to the way you work?  What changes were most helpful in 2010 and early 2011?

I agree with all said but I think I see something on Veer, slow reviews but some nice 3.5$ sales and a EL lately.. Regarding Alamy I have just a few pictures, the submission is so time consuming.. they need to improve that for sure, but with 20M they don´t need :P

Luis – I agree, and don’t think I’ll immediately remove Veer. The problem I have with Veer is the submissions often get bounced on me. It’s just one of those agencies that doesn’t like me.

As far as Alamy, yes it’s time consuming. That’s why I need to GAIN time (from eliminating other agencies) so I have that time to put on Alamy where I’m actually making good money (over $125 in two months.)

I am new to this industry but Alamy is a good place to earn. I guess macrostock is better than micro. I’ve got 2 sales in 4 months but I earned 217 which is nice. I ‘ve sold 150 or so pics in shutter and it is only 40 .Have you tried getty, corbis and other macros.?

Smart man – this is exactly the thing, when you are a one man operation you can’t afford to waste time with agencies that don’t yield enough results. Working for 2 cents an hour is great, and all, but I can’t survive on that. I’ve also stopped uploading to 3 agencies since a few months ago, and it feels great knowing my time is now being spent more wisely.

Thanks Todd – yeah, we have to work for what makes us cash. The rest can be done when we have extra time, we’re bored, etc.
