June 2009 Earnings

Filed in Monthly Results 13 comments

Ah June.? Smells of bbq, flowers and sales worth dog poop.

As always my chart (which was done on the 1st btw!) is here.? And for Lee who is self-proclaimed lazy, I’m posting a June chart:

The work … well … let’s see.? For the month I started strong and have had a terrible last two weeks.? I had some personal stuff come up that has interfered with “work.”? I would say for the month I did about 4 days of uploading at about 2? hrs a day so 8 hrs of work.? My income increased from last month by $47 and I earned a total of $455.02. I did no shooting for stock in June and added only about 160 new images to my galleries.? That’s consistent with the time I think I put in.? So my income increased slightly on very little work.? Eh.

Two BME’s – StockXpert continues to burn up the charts, continuing in 3rd on my charts behind only SS and DT.? CutCaster also earned $4.02 breaking the previous high of $3.19.? Heh.?? Other notes: Canstock had another Fotosearch DL, the 5th one in 5 months.? I like that.? I have many non-earners that may get permanently removed very soon.

At the halfway point of the year I think it’s important to take a look at where I am.

I’m not shooting enough.
I’m not editing enough.
I’m not uploading enough.

That about sums it up – decent return for almost no work I’ve done but wow, ok.? I am done playing around now.

Hi Matt,

I’m not sure what education you might have got but, when i went to school, 6 days at 2 hrs per day would have totalled 12 hours. ;o)

Congrats on the figures, for little work. I am sure that wouldnt last though, as you well know! But not bad for the build up to summer.

Keep at it. Good luck.

Dude – whats happening with you and iStock? Most other people who publish earnings reports (and myself) get between 40-50% of total revenue from iStock but by my calculations you’re getting 2% of total revenue from iStock.

Love them or hate them they are the Big Daddy with the largest microstock marketshare and you’re really missing out if you can’t get decent representation on iStock.

lol I fixed the post Steven – typo’d the days. 4×2 = 8. I hope.

The “problem” with me and IStock is that their uploading system is idiotic and so far I’ve refused to participate in it very often. They don’t fit ANY of my needs by not allowing me to get my gallery online quicker, refusing more than most places and basically being “industry leaders” in ONLY sales. I want to participate on Istock more but honestly if I’m only going to do 8-12 hrs a month, why waste half of that on IStock uploading? 3/4 would get refused and 1/4 would take me 4 hrs a month to upload essentially 20 new photos. It’s a pain in the butt!

I am very new to microstock, but i think iStock is quite good, i got only 52 and 10 downloads for 12$.. I think it is better to have 15 to 20 photos approved then none… think more positive and relaxed and after some time it became 100, 200 and more photos available… :)

cheers mat

I’d suggest maybe using a bit of editorial discretion with what you upload to iStock to make sure your time this is used efficiently.

I know they’re a pain in the butt, however they do provide the greatest rewards if you persevere.

Hey Matt, thanks for the report. I am curious that you are doing so well at SXP. My own sales there were slightly better in June, but I don’t feel I have a large enough sample to make any conclusions. Do you have an idea what your percentages are between SXP sales, and those from their associated sales with JI and photos.com? Will you see much of a drop when they pull the plug on the affiliation?

Submitting to iStock with DeepMeta is quite easy …

Anyway, iStock moved to my #1 earner last month:

Hi Matt (again),

I was sure you were already using it, but DeepMeta makes submitting to IStock much easier than messing about with their website. I personally wouldnt bother uploading to IS without it now.

Steven.

Thanks for the chart Matt! I’m sure I’m not the only one who appreciates it. ;)

Heed the advice on DeepMeta. It reduces the pain by a considerable margin.

I haven’t been able to get DeepMeta to work now for over two weeks. Invalid login, error 402, error 500 – it’s just a mess. :(
