Google Images Search – Tineye Killer?

Filed in Micro Tricks & Tips 4 comments

Tineye Killer?  Settle down there.

I visit Google Images everyday of the week.  Often, it’s to find my images in use and create tear sheets.  Today I logged in and saw a new message that I’m not sure was there before.

New! Now you can use an image to start your Google search.
Learn more, or try it now by dragging one of these images into the search box above.
I’m always curious so I clicked “Learn more.”  It’s a Tineye-type Firefox or Chrome extension so I added it and rebooted Firefox.  Right click an image and under TinEye is the new Google Images context menu.
Does it work?

Only if water is wet.
The rest of today I spent finding images.  This extension blows TinEye out of the water. I mean … to the point where an image Tineye would find 2 tear sheets on, this would find 15-50.  FIFTY…
I downloaded about 100 tear sheets and finally decided to tell someone.  So yeah – go get this. Now.
(Yes, I know I posted 3 times today… it won’t happen again.)

Amen to that, I can’t believe how much more accurate it is than Tineye. So many more results. I wonder if they’ll come back with something improved soon. If not, then once again it’s the same old story of Walmart putting all of the mom and pop operations out of business.
