This is some raw SEO data – I’m going to analyze it in another post but here’s what I have so far from four major agencies. I am actually quite shocked by a few of these. The raw data suggests that a LOT of what we do with our images, we do incorrectly.

That’s not strictly true for SS, they do use the metadata for SEO, but you have to disable your javascript to see it in action (their ‘new’ish ajaxy stuff makes it work differently).
The image you linked appears to the search engines like this:

Which is a bit more useful. Though most microstock agencies suck at SEO, Deposit Photos and Pixmac have it done pretty well, other agencies are coming along too ![]()

I can’t really see what we can do here… Especially for shutterstock – they don’t use our metadata except for alt attribute of tag
